Strasbourg 28.10.2011 – A five-member delegation of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), led by Tiny Kox (Netherlands, UEL), will carry out a pre-electoral mission to Moscow on 8-11 November 2011, to assess the electoral framework and campaign ahead of the Russian parliamentary elections on 4 December 2011.
The delegation will meet leaders of political factions in the Duma and party list leaders, representatives of political parties not represented in the parliament and running in these elections, as well as representatives of civil society groups denied registration as political parties. They are also due to meet the Chair of the Central Election Commission, representatives of NGOs and the media.
A full 40-member delegation from the Assembly will return to the country to observe the voting before making a final assessment.
A press conference is scheduled on Friday 11 November at 1 p.m. at the Interfax news agency (2 Pervaya Tverskaya-Yamskaya Ul., Moscow, 127006).
