During his discussions with the Turkish Prime Minister, Binali Yildirim, in Ankara this morning, the President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), Pedro Agramunt, who is currently on an official visit to Turkey, condemned the bomb attack carried out on Beyazit Square in Istanbul in the strongest possible terms.
“Once again, the blind fanaticism of terrorists has struck Istanbul, targeting our shared values, our institutions and our way of life. We must stand together and protect our freedoms”, stated the President.
“Terrorism now affects the entire world, from Istanbul to Paris and from Beirut to Bamako, not to mention the daily attacks in Iraq and Syria. Only by working together can we succeed in avoiding the trap set for us by the terrorists, who are attempting to destabilise the foundations of our societies by sowing the seeds of hatred and fear”, he stressed, expressing his full support for the Turkish authorities.
He reaffirmed PACE’s solidarity with the Turkish people and authorities and extended his condolences to the victims’ families.
