Upholding gender, equality and non-discrimination in times of crisis and pandemics

To face new waves of pandemics and other crises, governments will need to take a differentiated approach, and ensure that responses are “comprehensive and inclusive” and take full account of the diversity of our societies, said the Equality Committee, adopting a report by Petra Stienen (Netherlands, ALDE) on this issue.

Crisis response bodies should be gender-balanced and be representative of the full diversity within society. These bodies should also plan, budget and provide additional support to persons who will need it, and place the safety of victims of gender-based and domestic violence at the heart of all policies taken in response to crises, underlines the text adopted by the committee.
