Having tabled a motion for a resolution on The situation of Ukrainian persons forcefully displaced or transferred to the Russian Federation or Ukrainian territories under the de facto control of the Russian Federation, Paulo Pisco (Portugal, SOC) has been appointed rapporteur for this new report by the Committee on 7 December 2022.

Birgir Thórarinsson (Iceland, EPP/CD) was appointed rapporteur on the humanitarian crisis emerging for Afghanistan and Afghan refugees on 21 March 2022.

 

Migration, asylum and European Solidarity: new rapporteur

Alexander Dundee (United Kingdom, EC/DA) was appointed rapporteur on European solidarity in the context of migration and asylum, after being referred to the Committee by the Bureau of the PACE following a current-affairs debate on 24 June 2021 on the need for an effective solidarity mechanism between European countries to relieve migratory pressure on front line countries.

 

New rapporteur on the theme of migration and asylum in the election campaign and consequences on the welcoming and rights of migrants

Pierre-Alain Fridez (Switzerland, SOC) was appointed rapporteur for the theme of migration and asylum in the election campaign and consequences on the welcoming and rights of migrants on 13 October 2022, in replacement of Ms Yolaine de Courson (France, ALDE), who is no longer a member of PACE.

 

Visiting detention centres for irregular migrants

Many parliamentarians across Europe have a right to visit detention centres for irregular migrants and asylum seekers as part of their mandate as national parliamentarians. Yet a survey conducted by the Assembly has shown that this right is not always known to parliamentarians or used to its full capacity. The Committee has developed a guide to raise awareness of this right and encourage and assist parliamentarians in carrying out visits to detention centres.  More

The three Vice-Chairpersons of the Bureau were also elected by acclamation: Paul Gavan (Ireland, UEL) as 1st Vice-Chairperson, Oleksii Goncharenko (Ukraine EC/DA) as 2nd Vice-Chairperson and Domagoj Hajduković (Croatia, SOC) as 3rd Vice-Chairperson.
