24/06/2016 Session
PACE has called for a system of parliamentary immunity which would prevent politically motivated criminal proceedings, and has spelled out a series of principles which should underlie such immunity.
Approving a resolution based on a report by Liliana Palihovici (Republic of Moldova, EPP/CD), the Assembly strongly condemend the breaches by some member States of the immunity status of Assembly members and of the principle of free movement.
The parliamentarians also requested an opinion from the Venice Commission, the Council of Europe’s body of legal experts, on the suspension of the parliamentary inviolability of members of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey.
