Sybir Memorial Museum is awarded 2024 Council of Europe Museum Prize

PACE President Theodoros Rousopoulos presented the 2024 Museum Prize to Wojciech Śleszyński, Director of the Sybir Memorial Museum on 16 April 2024 during a ceremony in Strasbourg. Among the speakers were Theodoros Rousopoulos, President of the PACE, Salem Drici, City of Strasbourg’s Councillor, Wojciech Śleszyński, Director of the Sybir Memorial Museum and Joan Roca i Albert, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the European Museum Forum (EMF).

Prior to the ceremony on the same day, the Committee on Culture, Science, Education, and Media held a public hearing at the Palais de l’Europe, opened by Constantinos Efstathiou (Cyprus, SOC), Committee representative for the Museum Prize of the Council of Europe, along with the Director of the Sybir Memorial Museum and the Chairperson of the EMF.

In the Spotlight

The committee has completed its report "Threats to media freedom and journalists’ security in Europe". The Assembly, on this basis, adopted its Resolution 2317 (2020), which calls on the member States of the Council of Europe to create an environment conducive to freedom of the media and prevent the misuse of laws or normative provisions that may affect this freedom, without which there is no democracy.
