PACE Standing Committee debated Alexei Navalny's death at its 7 March meeting in Paris

The Standing Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe met at the Senate in Paris on Thursday, 7 March 2024.

Following opening addresses by the President of the Parliamentary Assembly, Theodoros Rousopoulos, and the President of the Senate, Gérard Larcher, participants held two current affairs debates. The first focused on “The death of Alexei Navalny”, with the intervention of Jacques Maire, former PACE rapporteur on the arrest and detention of Alexei Navalny and subsequently on Mr Navalny's poisoning. The second current affairs debate focused on "Two years of war of aggression by the Russian Federation against Ukraine".

The parliamentarians then debated reports on "The right to freedom of information: ensuring access to historical documents", and "Precarious and irregular work situations of migrant seasonal and domestic workers".

The Standing Committee meeting, which is open to the press, was held on Thursday, 7 March, from 2:30 to 5:30 pm at the Senate (Salle Médicis), Palais du Luxembourg, 15 rue de Vaugirard. It was broadcast live on the PACE website.

The Standing Committee, which acts on the Assembly’s behalf between plenary sessions, is made up of the President and Vice-Presidents of the Assembly, the chairpersons of political groups, the chairpersons of national delegations and the committee chairpersons, totalling some 60 parliamentarians from the Council of Europe’s 46 member States.
