Pedro Agramunt, President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council Europe (PACE), has strongly condemned the terrorist attack carried out today on the St Petersburg metro, said to have caused at least 10 deaths with dozens reportedly wounded.
“We are confronted once again with the barbarism and indiscriminate violence which are the marks of terrorism. This unspeakable act, targeting innocent people, is totally contrary to the values and principles of the Council of Europe,” said Mr Agramunt. “I would like to express my sincere condolences to the families of the victims and my sympathy with the wounded and the Russian authorities.”
“More than ever before, we must pool our efforts to combat terrorism and violent extremism effectively and provide a bulwark against the hatred which fuels them,” concluded the President.
