PACE President Liliane Maury Pasquier will meet António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations on 11 March in New York, on the occasion of the UN 63rd session of the Commission on the Status of Women.
She will hold other high-level bilateral meetings with, in particular, Gabriela Cuevas, President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU); Purna Sen, UN Women Executive Coordinator; Jane Connors, UN Victims’ Rights Advocate; and representatives of the UNHCR, the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, the UN Population Fund, UNICEF, and Human Rights Watch.
During her visit to New York (11-14 March), the PACE President will also speak at the opening of an event scheduled for 12 March on "Sexism, harassment and violence against women parliamentarians", co-organised by PACE, the IPU and the Finnish Presidency of the Council of Europe Committee of Ministers, which will be attended by a parliamentary delegation of the PACE Equality Committee. The purpose of the discussion is to take stock of ongoing legal and policy initiatives to end violence against women in politics, share experiences and strengthen partnerships at global, regional and local levels.
Ms Maury Pasquier will attend two other side-events, one on "The Council of Europe Istanbul Convention: a global instrument for preventing and combating violence against women and girls" and the other on "Closing the gender pay gap".
