30/09/2025 Session
“The situation in Türkiye is extremely worrying,” said Stefan Schennach (Austria, SOC), opening a current affairs debate today on Democracy, the rule of law and inclusive dialogue in Türkiye during the Assembly’s autumn plenary session in Strasbourg.
“Türkiye is increasingly reaching the lower level of the range of what could be described as a democracy where there is the rule of law,” added Mr Schennach, who is one of the two co-rapporteurs, along with Lord Blencathra (United Kingdom, ECPA), for the Assembly’s monitoring of the country.
He was one of 20 members who asked to speak in the debate. No report is prepared for a current affairs debate and no text is adopted.
