13/11/2014 President
Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly (PACE) President Anne Brasseur, together with the leaders of the Parliamentary Assembly's political groups, met today in Moscow with the Speaker of the Russian State Duma, Sergey Naryshkin.
Recalling that this was the second time they had met since April 2014 when the Assembly decided to suspend the Russian delegation's voting rights, the PACE President reiterated that the decision did not extend to suspending Russia's right to participate in the Parliamentary Assembly.
"It is only through dialogue that solutions can be found," the PACE President said, "and parliamentarians in particular have a responsibility to find solutions to problems together, whether these are at a national level or at the European level within the Council of Europe's work on democracy, human rights and the rule of law."
