President calls for probes to ‘root out corruption’ in all major sport federations

“After the FIFA fiasco, I am appalled by the scandal at the IAAF, the world body for athletics,” said PACE President Anne Brasseur today, following revelations being published today in a report by the World Anti-Doping Agency.

“High-ranked officials are not only allegedly covering up the doping of athletes and preventing them from facing sanctions, but are reportedly asking for bribes in order to profit from this situation,” she said.

“These officials are not only breaching the ethics code, the values of sport and the law, but they are endangering athletes’ health, with the risk of causing their deaths.”

“This shows the urgent need for investigations into all major international federations in order to root out corruption and dirty administration, clean up sport and protect the vast majority of athletes and volunteers,” said Ms Brasseur.
