The Assembly,
Having taken note of Resolution (54) 19 of the Committee of Ministers inviting Member States to accept as soon as possible the constitution of the European Commission for the Control of Foot-and-Mouth Disease, drafted by the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations, so that the Commission may have the widest possible application in Europe (Sixth Report of the Committee of Ministers, Doc. 357, para. 12);
Noting that only a few Member States have accepted the constitution of this Commission, which has been in existence for several years;
Believing that in present circumstances the Commission has need of the full support of the countries of Europe in order to enable it successfully to carry out its efforts to control the epidemic of foot-and-mouth disease prevailing in Europe,
Recommends that the Committee of Ministers should :
urge once more those Member Governments which have not already done so to accede to the European Commission for the Control of Foot-and-Mouth Disease;
ask all Member Governments to prevail upon the European Commission of F. A. 0. and the International Office of Epizootics to ensure that measures for the control of foot-and-mouth disease are given the widest | possible application.
