Referred to the Committee on the Honouring of Obligations and Commitments by Member States of the Council of Europe (Monitoring Committee), for information: Reference No. 3466 (27th Sitting, 27 June 2008).

The Armenian armed forces violated ceasefire to distract the attention of the international community and its own population from the bloody events in Yerevan in the aftermath of the latest controversial elections of the Armenian President which were held not only in Armenia, but also in the occupied Nagorno–Karabakh and adjacent Lachin and Kalbajar regions of Azerbaijan. This runs counter to both Armenian commitments before the Council of Europe and Parliamentary Assembly’s Resolution 1416 and is detrimental to the ongoing process of settlement of the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno–Karabakh conflict;

During debates held in the Armenian Parliament on the settlement of the Nagorno–Karabakh conflict, the draft document and statements of the deputies showed again a non-constructive approach to such a sensitive issue,

The Assembly calls on the Government of Armenia to halt immediately its provocations on the line of contact, to respect the ceasefire, to put an end to the occupation of the Azerbaijani territories and to refrain from aggressive statements, which contradict this country’s international obligations and disrespect European values.
