This motion has not been discussed in the Assembly and commits only those who have signed it.
Following its Resolution
1693 (2009)
and in anticipation of the 5th World
Water Forum, to be held in Marseilles in 2012, the Parliamentary
Assembly wishes to continue its consideration of the problem of
water, and more specifically the tensions and conflicts that can
result from a shortage of drinking water.
As the Assembly already stressed, access to water, its supply
and its use can lead to tension that may result in conflict, either
internal or between states.
The Assembly therefore wishes to initiate a debate on water
resources and the risk of conflict, which might then serve as the
basis for a contribution to the forthcoming World Water Forum.
