The idea of community self-government, development of subsidiarity and common good, summarized by the idea of Big Society, can become an important new paradigm for the European countries and the whole Council of Europe in the social and institutional evolution.
Since its foundation, the entire activity of the Parliamentary Assembly has been based on the principles and values of communities, subsidiarity and common good. Therefore, the current political and cultural debate on the Big-Society is a priority for the entire Council of Europe.
An extensive work by the Parliamentary Assembly is urgent as well as a careful elaboration of proposals and suggestions that should be inspired by the idea of Big Society and focus on the values and good practices of subsidiarity, common good and community self-government.
