This motion has not been discussed in the Assembly and commits only those who have signed it.
Recent violence inflicted by the agents of the Iraqi government
has been responsible for the killing of 33 residents of Camp Ashraf
in Iraq and the injury of over 300 more.
Agents of the government of Iraq have inflicted harassment
upon the residents of the Camp, surrounding the Camp for many months,
encircling it with loudspeakers which constantly emit loud and intrusive
broadcasting, and restricting vital supplies of food, water, other
materials and especially medical aid from entering the Camp.
The Parliamentary Assembly should, in the name of basic humanity,
demand that medical help is administered instantly to the sick and
wounded, and that it is maintained thereafter.
The Assembly should also demand that the “protected persons”
status granted to Camp Ashraf residents under the auspices of the
Fourth Geneva Convention during the military occupation must be
fully recognised and upheld by the present Iraqi government, in
compliance with the undertakings it gave to coalition forces during the
handover of power.
