Co-ordination among the national institutions of the member countries of the Council of Europe concerned with social research and of the application of such research, particularly in backward areas within the competence of those institutions

Order 96 (1956)

Author(s):
Parliamentary Assembly

The Assembly,

Considering that in September, 1953 it decided t place on its Agenda and refer to its Committee on Social Questions the following question :

"Investigation of the possibility of co-ordination among the national institutions of the member countries of the Council of Europe concerned with social research, and of the application of such research, particularly in backward areas within the competence of those institutions";

Considering that the Committee on Social Questions, as a result of its preliminary examination of this problem, is of the opinion that its terms of reference should be extended so as to include :

1 the problem of the adaptation of the individual and the family to modern conditions arising from mechanisation and industrialisation;
2 consideration of the difference between generally under-developed regions and limited "problem areas" in devel-oped countries;
3 measures which should be taken by Member States to solve the problem,

Decides to re-word the question on its Agenda as follows :

"Measures to be taken by Member States with a view to the social and cultural adjustment of the individual and the family to conditions arising from mechanisation and industrialisation, both in under-developed areas and other backward zones already affected by these conditions".
