European co-operation in specific scientific fields

The Assembly,

1. Recalling its initiatives designed to strengthen Europe's scientific and technological potential, set out, in particular, in Recommendations 461 (1966), 477 (1967) and 536 (1968) ;
2. Recalling its Order No. 310 (1971), in which it instructed its Committee on Science and Technology to help improve and step up scientific and technological co-operation in Europe by means of exploratory studies, and by the creation of study groups and working parties in specific fields of science ;
3. Welcoming the interest aroused in scientific circles by the work of its Committee on Science and Technology in this direction ;
4. Having noted with satisfaction the tangible results achieved in scientific terms by the working parties already set up,
5. Instructs its Committee on Science and Technology to continue its work for the promotion of scientific cooperation in Europe using the methods already applied :
by encouraging greater pooling of available scientific and technological potential between European laboratories ;
by seeking to draw up joint scientific programmes in specific research fields ;
by promoting meetings of research workers, and extending exchanges of scientific information ;
6. Invites its Committee on Science and Technology to convene a European joint committee on scientific co-operation consisting of :
parliamentarians from the Committee on Science and Technology, and
the Chairmen, co-ordinators and secretaries of Bureaux of the scientific working parties.
