The Assembly,
1. Recalling Resolution (74) 6 of the Committee of Ministers, on methods for improving dental health ;
2. Considering the statements in the said resolution regarding the importance of oral (dental) health, the widespread occurrence of oral diseases and their serious financial, social and psychological implications to be still valid ;
3. Noting that additional research results regarding methods of disease prevention reinforce even further the recommendation to governments to take into account the recommendations enunciated in Appendix B to the resolution ;
4. Recalling the invitation from the Committee of Ministers to the governments to inform the Secretary General of the Council of Europe every five years of the action taken by them in pursuance of Resolution (74) 6,
5. Recommends that the Committee of Ministers invite the member governments to submit their first replies in 1979, in pursuance of the above resolution, by :
a issuing a questionnaire before the end of 1978, in order to facilitate the collection of comparable information from governments on oral disease prevention ;
b appointing a small group of experts to design such a questionnaire to meet scientific requirements on the interpretation of data ;
c including in the group expertise from the World Health Organisation to take into regard information already assembled by WHO and other agencies ;
d reconvening at a later stage the group of experts, enlarged as appropriate, to analyse the replies with the aim of advising the member states about successful measures or schemes which have been implemented in other member states, including action on increasing public knowledge on harmful effects of certain food products on oral hygiene ;
e studying any recommendations from the group for urgent applied research, with the aim of supporting such research.
