Setting up of a Europe-Africa Committee

Resolution 201 (1961)

Author(s):
Parliamentary Assembly
Origin
Assembly debate on 23rd September 1961 (12th Sitting) (see Doc. 1346, Report of the Committee on Rules of Procedure). Text adopted by the Assembly on 23rd September 1961 (12th Sitting), after amendment.

The Assembly,

Having considered the Motion for a Resolution (Doc. 1213) on the formation of a Europe-Africa Committee ;

Fully appreciating the value of the arguments put forward in favour of the said Motion ;

Considering the disadvantages inherent in the formation of a committee with competence for a geographical area outside Europe ;

Recalling the work carried out or undertaken by the Assembly in this field through its committees and sub-committees,

1. Considers it inadvisable, for the time being, to take action on the Motion for a Resolution (Doc. 1213) on the formation within the Consultative Assembly of a "Europe-Africa" Committee ;

2. Invites the Sub-committees of the Political, Economic, Social and Cultural and Scientific Committees, and of the Committee on Agriculture, responsible for the study of relations between Europe and Africa, to co-ordinate their work ;

3. Instructs the Working Party on reactivating the Council of Europe to consider, within the scope of its terms of reference, the best ways of promoting closer relations between Europe and Africa.
