The Assembly,

Having taken note of the Report of the Cultural and Scientific Committee on the preservation and development of ancient buildings and historic or artistic sites (Doc. 1570) ;

Noting with satisfaction that the question of regional planning has been included in the draft Agenda for the 5th Session of the European Conference of Local Authorities ;

Considering the prime importance of the part to be played by municipalities and local authorities in the matter of the preservation and development of ancient buildings and historic or artistic sites,

Decides to recommend that the European Conference of Local Authorities :

1 Consider in connection with the question of regional planning included in the Agenda for its 5th Session, that of the preservation and development of ancient buildings and historic or artistic sites ;

2 Arrange for specially successful national undertakings in this field to be brought to the knowledge of all European municipalities ;

3 Consider the establishment of a European federation of historic towns
