(2014)
1 The Committee of Ministers has carefully
considered Parliamentary Assembly Recommendation 2045 (2014) on
“Combating sexual violence against children: towards a successful
conclusion of the ONE in FIVE Campaign” and transmitted it to its
relevant subordinate body.
Note
2 Combating sexual violence against children is a high priority
for the Committee of Ministers. In this context, it regularly encourages
member States to sign, ratify and implement the Council of Europe
Convention on the Protection of Children against Sexual Exploitation
and Sexual Abuse (CETS No. 201, “Lanzarote Convention”) which it
considers a major tool in addressing this scourge. Furthermore,
in line with the Assembly’s recommendation, the Committee agreed
to the extension of the Council of Europe ONE in FIVE Campaign for
an additional year, until the end of 2015.
3 Bearing in mind the Assembly’s recommendation to establish
a European Day to fight sexual violence against children, the Committee
of Ministers also entrusted the Secretariat to prepare, by the end
of the year, possibly together with key stakeholders, a concept
paper on the establishment of such a day, with the aim of raising
awareness of sexual violence against children, in line with the
Council of Europe Strategy for the Rights of the Child (2012-2015).
The Committee of Ministers will inform the Assembly in due course
on the result of its deliberations on the matter.
