1 Report of the Committee on the Election of Judges to the European Court of Human Rights

The Committee held a meeting in Strasbourg on 19 June 2016 with Mr Boriss Cilevičs (Latvia, SOC), in the Chair.

2 Introduction

In accordance with previous practice and as specified in Parliamentary Assembly Resolution 2002 (2014), [(1) See document AS/Cdh/Inf (2016) 01 rev 3 for details.] the Committee on the Election of Judges to the European Court of Human Rights assessed the qualifications of the candidates to the Court in respect of the United Kingdom. [(2) See Appendix 1 for the list of candidates submitted by the Government concerned. The curricula vitae of candidates can be found in Assembly Doc. 14050.] A list of members of the Committee who participated in the meeting can be found in Appendix 2.

3 Conclusions of the committee on the list of candidates submitted by the United Kingdom, Contracting State to the European Convention on Human Rights

The Committee recommends, by a narrow majority, Mr Tim Eicke, over Ms Jessica Simor, as the most qualified candidate.
