This written declaration does not reflect the position of the Assembly; only of those members that have signed it. It will not be considered further by the Assembly.
In Resolution 2113 (2016) the Parliamentary Assembly urged
the Belgian authorities to deeply reform the Brussels Capital Region
and to unify the six police zones to one zone to improve the efficiency.
While the Assembly applauds the hard work of the Belgian Police
and Security forces and the recent arrest of a Brussels terror cell
that planned to attack the ongoing Euro 2016 tournament, the Assembly
is very concerned about the refusal of some mayors of the Brussels
Capital Region to enforce any reforms whatsoever, purely based upon
communitarian arguments and neglecting the security argument.
