Measures to be taken by the Member States for the protection of consumers

The Assembly,
Considering that, the promotion of
social progress is one of the aims of the Council
of Europe;
Considering that the protection of
consumers and the organisation of consumers'
interests in general are powerful factors in the
improvement of living conditions;
Believing that co-operation between
the member countries in this matter would be
likely to promote a notable improvement in
national methods and to make a useful contribution
towards working out a joint European
policy in this field,
Decides :
1 to include the following item in its
Agenda : " measures to be taken b y the Member
States for the protection of consumers " ;
2 to instruct the Secretary-General to
invite the representatives of associations and
institutions concerned with the protection of
consumers' interests in the Member States to
meet at the Seat of the Council of Europe in
order to discuss the question and to make any
useful suggestions to the Assembly.
