The Assembly :
1. Notes with concern the fluctuations of livestock prices in Member States and the consequential harmful effects upon livestock production;
2. Believes that these fluctuations have impaired the steps taken in some Member States both to improve and stabilise farm incomes and to encourage livestock production;
3. Notes with equal concern the widening disparity between livestock prices and retail meat prices in some Member States;
4. Believes that it is essential, especially in the case of livestock and meat, to secure a reasonable degree of stability in agricultural marketing;
5. Further believes therefore that existing marketing systems and means of distribution should be improved and made more efficient ;
Recommends to the Committee of Ministers that the marketing and distribution of live-stock and meat should be the subject of urgent discussions between exporting and importing Member States and that these discussions should be extended to include the main exporting countries outside Europe.
