Origin
Assembly debate on 21st, 22nd and 23rd April 1964 (2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th Sittings) (see Doc. 1756, revised draft Recommendation presented by the Political Committee). Text adopted by the Assembly on 23rd April 1964 (5th Sitting), as amended.
1. The Assembly,
2. Having noted :
the danger of inflation in the economy of a number of European countries;
the insufficient progress in the coordination of economic policies through community decisions in the European Economic Community;
the continuing divergence in the trade policies of EEC and EFTA;
the lack of unity in the foreign policy of European States;
the stagnation in the political unification of Europe,
3. Urges all Governments concerned :
a to face the threat of inflation through the co-ordination of monetary and budgetary policies at European level;
b to avoid, in particular in the Kennedy Round, with due regard for reciprocity in trade relations with the United States, a too rigid protection of European agricultural markets;
c to neglect no opportunity of achieving as soon as possible an Atlantic partnership between partners with equal rights;
d to refrain from any political attitude which would embitter European relations with the United States and accordingly threaten the unity of Europe.
