In 2014-2015, following the illegal annexation of Crimea and military aggression in Donbas, the Parliamentary Assembly suspended certain rights of the Russian delegation and put forward a clearly defined list of demands under which this decision could be reviewed.
According to Resolutions 1990 (2014), 2034 (2015) and 2063 (2015) it urged the Russian authorities, inter alia, to:
Russia failed to comply with every single provision of the above-mentioned resolutions. Furthermore, in violation of the international law, elections to the Russian parliament were illegally organised in occupied Crimea.
We strongly believe that the Assembly position in relation with the Russian delegation should be consistent and based on the aforementioned resolutions. Otherwise, the Assembly will effectively recognise its failure to ensure its authority in Europe and beyond.
