31/01/2020 | 10:25:07 Thank you. Yet again we are discussing social networks. It seems to me that this topic keeps coming back to the agenda over and over again. And it always comes in the context of dangers of social networks and the need to control social networks. Please allow me to remind you that the widespread term fake news did not originate in regard to anything on social networks. It actually originated in regard to the content on the mainstream media. How come we never debate the fact that there is less... 30/01/2020 | 18:46:23 Merci. As someone who was present at the Paris Session of the Monitoring Committee when we decided that France should be one of the four countries to undergo the periodic review on the state of democracy, human rights and the rule of law, I feel compelled to say a few words. It is with bewilderment that sometime later I found out that French representatives have had a very negative reaction to this decision of a Monitoring Committee and that ever since, they've been trying to overturn it. I... 12/04/2019 | 11:30:37 The concerns about the misuse of social media are valid, but please allow me, colleagues, to present a case about the relationship between social media and mainstream media that rather inverts the one presented in the report. The biggest threat to democracy in Serbia is linked to fake news or the manipulation of and filtering out of information not in social media, but in the mainstream media, which are under the political control of the ruling party. Social media is where you can find out... 10/04/2019 | 11:08:05 Allow me first to commend the rapporteur on this report on the draft resolution on the role and responsibilities of political leaders in combating hate speech and intolerance. Ms Elvira KOVÁCS and I share the same parliament – the Serbian National Assembly. She is an MP of the ruling majority party, and I am an opposition MP. In my opinion, this is a well-reasoned report and draft resolution – a much-needed guideline for combating hate speech – and I have no problem supporting it. That said... 09/04/2019 | 18:20:04 The issue that we are debating is very close to my heart. After just five years in politics and three years in the Serbian National Assembly, I can personally confirm up to 90% of the negative examples from this report about sexism in the political arena. However, there is one particular issue that I feel has not been emphasised enough. I propose that political competitors recognise the fact that the easiest and fastest way to discredit a female politician in the public eye is to attack her...
