Laura Castel (Spain, UEL) and Miapetra Kumpula-Natri (Finland, SOC), co-rapporteurs of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) for the periodic review on Greece, will undertake a fact-finding visit to Athens from 27 to 29 April, to assess the honouring of membership obligations to the Council of Europe by Greece.
Discussions will focus in particular on recent political developments, the effectiveness of the judicial system, the fight against corruption, checks and balances, the constitutional revision in progress, the law on parliamentary immunity, the execution of judgments of the European Court of Human Rights and freedom and pluralism of the press, as well as migration issues.
The co-rapporteurs will meet the President of the Hellenic Republic, the Prime Minister, the Minister of Migration and Asylum, the Deputy Minister of Justice, the President of the Council of State and the Greek delegation to PACE.
Talks are also scheduled with the President of the National Council for Radio and Television, the President of the Greek National Commission for Human Rights and the Ombudsperson, as well as with civil society representatives.
The periodic review applies to all member states that are not under a full monitoring procedure or engaged in “post-monitoring dialogue”.
