Current affairs debate: the need for peace and stability in the broader Middle East

PACE debates the need for peace and stability in the broader Middle East

“The entire Middle East – from the Mediterranean to the Persian Gulf – is on fire, with catastrophic consequences. The lesson we have to learn from this is that without a political strategy there is no solution,” said Piero Fassino (Italy, SOC), opening a current affairs debate today on the need for the respect of international law, peace and stability in the broader Middle East.

“Armies and aggression simply create anarchy, and conditions of chaos, on the international stage,” he added.

Around 25 members spoke in the debate. No text is adopted by the Assembly following a current affairs debate.
