“Desperate, unarmed migrants are not bargaining chips or weapons, they are human beings, men, women and children,” said Lord Michael German (United Kingdom, ALDE), opening a current affairs debate today on the topic Solidarity with Ceuta: a test case for Europe.
“They may have been manipulated, but they still have full human rights under our European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR). Rights are for all, both for the citizens of Ceuta and those who may have been influenced to travel,” added Lord German, who is the Assembly’s General Rapporteur on European migration and asylum policies.
Around 20 members requested to speak during the debate. No text is adopted by the Assembly following a current affairs debate.
