Nuremberg receives 2007 Europe Prize during ceremony

Strasbourg, 13.08.2007 – It was in the framework of Nuremberg’s Festival of Twinned Towns that the ceremony to award the 2007 Europe Prize to the town of Nuremberg took place, on Saturday 11 August.

Several hundred people took part in the ceremony, in the prestige setting of the Tucher Mansion, during which the Chair of the Europe Prize Committee, Guy Lengagne (France, ) presented Nuremberg’s mayor, Ulrich Maly, with the Europe Prize trophy in the presence of Assembly Vice-President Walter Schmied and a large Assembly delegation.

Nuremberg thus becomes the 63rd winner of this prize, which rewards tows and regions for their European commitment.

In his speech, Mr Lengagne stressed Nuremberg’s commitment to human rights and the richness of its 14 twinnings. Nuremberg is the 14th German town to receive this major honour.
