Strasbourg, 23.01.2008 - Addressing the Parliamentary Assembly on 23 January, Abdelaziz Ziari, President of the National People’s Assembly of Algeria, paid tribute to his country’s co-operation with the Council of Europe, which reflected its determination to "pursue the process of deepening pluralist democracy and consolidating progress on human rights". He added that priorities included a free, plural and professional press, a bigger role for women in the community, and security for individuals.
