10/11/2009 Migration, International Protection and Economic Co-operation
Strasbourg, 10.11.2009 – The members of the Committee on Migration, Refugees and Population of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) will be taking part on 12 November in a forum on “Remain, migrate or return: what to do in a global recession?”, organised by the Sub-Committee on Migration and the Turkish parliament.
The parliamentarians will be looking at the effects of the economic crisis on migration flows, the burdens and benefits for receiving countries, the development challenges faced by countries of origin and the repercussions of the crisis on migrants and their families. Experts on international migration and migration policies, representing international organisations such as the International Organization for Migration, the OECD, the ILO, or the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees will contribute to the debate.
The Chair of the Sub-Committee, Mevlüt Çavusoglu (Turkey, EDG) and Mehmet Ali Küçükçavus, Director of the Asylum and Migration Bureau (Turkish Ministry of Interior) will give an opening address at the forum.
A roundtable on “The continuous challenge of migration in Europe” will be held on 13 November to be attended by students from the University of Akdeniz, migrants and parliamentarians.
