Strasbourg, 25.11.2011 – The Parliamentary Assembly is to begin assessing the request for ‘Partner for democracy’ status submitted by the Parliament of the Kyrgyz Republic.
PACE’s Political Affairs Committee will now assess the request – submitted by the Speaker of the Kyrgyz Parliament, Ahmatbek Keldibekov, in a letter to PACE President Mevlut Cavusoglu – together with an opinion from the Committee on Legal Affairs and Human Rights.
The Moroccan Parliament and the Palestinian National Council already hold this status, which allows parliaments from neighbouring regions to take part in the Assembly’s work in return for commitments to uphold the values of the Council of Europe.
