New rules of conduct for PACE members

Strasbourg, 04.10.2012 – In a resolution adopted today on the basis of a report by Oliver Heald (United Kingdom, EDG), PACE decided to introduce a code of conduct for its members and establish a system of rules relating, in particular, to political favouritism, offers of gifts or hospitality to members, situations of conflict of interest, or the use of members’ mandates to promote or safeguard personal interests.

These new ethical rules, which supplement the existing regulations, aim to promote the principles of transparency, accountability, integrity and primacy of the public interest, which are essential in maintaining public confidence in the parliamentary institution and elected representatives.
