Strasbourg, 01.03.2013 – Håkon Haugli (Norway, SOC), PACE rapporteur on "Tackling discrimination on the grounds of sexual orientation and gender identity", ended today a three-day fact-finding visit to Hungary, During his visit, discussions focused on the developments in Hungarian legislation and their possible impact on the situation of LGBT people, as well as on the implementation of the existing anti-discrimination regulations.
Members of a number of NGOs, the Chairperson of the Equal Treatment Authority and representatives of the National Police provided information on the situation of LGBT people in the country.
The rapporteur also exchanged views with members of the Constitutional, Judicial and Standing Orders Committee of the Hungarian Parliament from the majority and the opposition and with members of the Hungarian delegation to PACE. He had a meeting with Deputy State Secretary Krisztián Gáva, from the Ministry of Public Administration and Justice, who is part of the Human Rights Working Group set up by the Hungarian government.
