PACE committee to look at migration between Morocco and European countries

Strasbourg, 02.04.2013 – The Committee on Migration, Refugees and Displaced Persons of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) will organise in Rabat on 4-5 April 2013, in co-operation with the Moroccan Parliament, a conference on the theme “How can Morocco and Europe face up to the challenges and opportunities in the field of South-North migration?”.

This conference, which will be opened by the Vice-Presidents of both Chambers of the Moroccan Parliament, will deal with security issues at borders, the consequences of the economic crisis on migrants in Europe and those returning to their countries of origin, and the main problems for integration of Moroccan migrants in European society.

In addition, the committee is due to adopt on 4 April a report by Mikael Cederbratt (Sweden, EPP/CD) on “FRONTEX: the need to improve its human rights role and capabilities”, and another by Andrea Rigoni (Italy, ALDE) on “Management of mixed migration and asylum challenges beyond the European Union’s Eastern border”.
The conference, which is open to the press, will be held on Thursday 4 April (2.30 pm to 6 pm) and Friday 5 April (9.30 am to 1 pm) at the Hotel La Tour Hassan, 26 rue de Chellah, in Rabat. The committee will hold its meeting on Thursday morning from 9.30 am to 1 pm.
