Strasbourg, 23.04.2013 - I welcome the reaching of a draft agreement on the accession of the European Union to the European Convention on Human Rights and I applaud the spirit of compromise which enabled it to be concluded, PACE President Jean-Claude Mignon said today, on the occasion of the PACE Session in Strasbourg.
This is a decisive step towards the creation of a unified area of human rights protection in Europe. It is also a shining example of the fruitful co-operation between the European Union and the Council of Europe which I have both desired and encouraged since my election to the Presidency of the PACE.
I sincerely hope that each will, within its remit, do all that is necessary for this draft agreement to come into force as rapidly as possible.
