The increasing complexity of science and technology calls for the creation of a permanent global body for ethical reflection, the Assembly said today. Such structure would make it possible to address ethical issues as a “moving target”, rather than fixing an “ethical code”, and enable a periodic re-questioning of even basic assumptions.
According to the adopted text, based on the report by Jan Kazmierczak (Poland, EPP/CD), the Council of Europe could and should contribute to the ongoing work of the United Nations to set up a global committee in this area.
