Child poverty is creeping back into Europe as the economic crisis has undermined social protection systems, according to PACE’s Social Affairs Committee.
Approving a report by Sevinj Fataliyeva (Azerbaijan, EDG) today in Paris, the committee said comprehensive strategies for eradicating child poverty in Europe existed but their implementation “is currently lagging far behind expectations and the actual needs of children”.
The committee called for a series of measures to lift children out of poverty, including more money for early childhood education and care as well as health.
