Václav Havel Human Rights prize: deadline for nominations is 30 April

The Assembly approved the report presented today by Nataša Vučković (Serbia, SOC), reviewing the activities of the Assembly's Bureau and Standing Committee since the last part-session in 2014 (27-31 January). The topics covered by the progress report included: the political crisis in Ukraine, the election of the Secretary General of the Council of Europe and the observation of elections, notably the decision to observe the early presidential election to be held on 25 May in Ukraine. Concerning the Václav Havel Human Rights Prize 2014, the Assembly confirmed the deadline for submitting nominees for the Prize, set at 30 April 2014.

In addition, the Bureau approved the terms of reference of a General Rapporteur on combating racism and intolerance at the request of the Committee on Equality and Non-Discrimination, and agreed that General Rapporteurs could keep their function after the expiry of their mandate until a new General Rapporteur was appointed by the committee concerned. Finally, the Assembly ratified the Bureau's decision on the Guidelines for the observation of elections by the PACE.
