Call for extension of the ONE in FIVE Campaign

In unanimously adopting the report by Valeriu Ghiletchi (Republic of Moldova, EPP/CD), the PACE Social Affairs Committee today recommended that the Committee of Ministers extend the Council of Europe’s ONE in FIVE Campaign for a further year, until November 2015, in order to reap the maximum benefits. It also recommended that the Committee of Ministers, following consultations with the EU and UNICEF, institute a European Day to fight sexual violence against children.

In his report, Mr Ghiletchi underlines the dual objective of the campaign: to promote the signature, ratification and implementation of the Council of Europe Convention on the Protection of Children against Sexual Exploitation and Sexual Abuse, and to raise maximum awareness of the extent of this problem, pointing out that one signature and 17 ratifications of the Convention are still outstanding. The rapporteur also took stock of what has been achieved at intergovernmental, national, parliamentary, local and regional level.
