The town of Borken, in the German Land of Hessen, is to be awarded the Council of Europe Plaque of Honour on 3 October. Marlene Rupprecht, the former member of the German Bundestag and honorary member of the Parliamentary Assembly, will hand over the prize in recognition of this town’s efforts for Europe. It has been twinned for over forty years with the French towns of Méru, Noailles and Haucourt-Moulaine-St Charles but it has also developed twinnings with the Austrian town of Hüttschlag, the Polish town of Izabelin and the German town of Teuchern.
