22/05/2015 Standing Committee
The PACE Standing Committee has urged the member States to update their constitutional and legislative frameworks for protecting children's rights and include those rights in their national constitutions at today's meeting in Sarajevo.
The resolution adopted on the basis of the report by Cezar Florin Preda (Romania, EPP/CD) calls on the member States to analyse current constitutional provisions in the light of international standards and regard children as “autonomous rights-holders”.
To guarantee that children's rights are effectively implemented, the parliamentarians also recommended developing “accessible enforcement mechanisms for children” – such as access to judicial remedies and courts – and setting up independent human rights institutions for children.
