“The problem of captured people during the conflict in Ukraine cannot be solved without a ceasefire, which unfortunately is continuing to be violated by the separatists,” said Nellija Kleinberga (Latvia, ALDE), ending a three-day visit to Ukraine to prepare a report on this issue.
“After that, they should be returned to their homes and provided with first aid, medical, social and psychological assistance. The problem of their legal status is vital for the rehabilitation of captured people, but the most important thing is to stop this hybrid war, which can hardly be called a conflict,” she added.
“This visit was very emotional for me and provided me with fuller information which was not available through the mass media or official reports. I am touched by the real stories of people who went through the hell of captivity, torture and humiliation,” she concluded.
