The co-rapporteurs of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) for the monitoring of Ukraine, Jordi Xuclà (Spain, ALDE) and Axel Fischer (Germany, EPP/CD), warmly welcomed yesterday’s adoption by the Verkhovna Rada of the Constitutional amendments regarding the judiciary.
“It is with great satisfaction that we see that the Constitutional amendments with regard to the judiciary have been adopted by the Verkhovna Rada following a positive advice from the Constitutional Court. As we have repeatedly stressed on previous occasions, these amendments are a crucial prerequisite for the successful implementation of the reforms of the judiciary and justice system with a view to guaranteeing its efficiency and above all independence. The adoption of these amendments is a welcome step forward and we will continue our monitoring of the implementation of these much needed reforms in close co-operation with our colleagues of the Verkhovna Rada “, the co-rapporteurs said.
