PACE members to visit Vordernberg immigration detention centre

As part of its ongoing programme of visits to immigration detention centres in Council of Europe member States, the Committee on Migration, Refugees and Displaced Persons of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), is organising a visit to Vordernberg immigration detention centre in Austria on 15-16 November 2016.

The visit will consist of a preparatory meeting in the Austrian Parliament in Vienna on 15 November, followed by the visit to the Vordernberg immigration detention centre on 16 November.

The visiting delegation will be informed about the centre and its work and on Austrian policy concerning detention of migrants from the Austrian Ministry of the Interior. Parliamentarians will also meet a representative of the Volksanwaltschaft (Austrian Ombudsman board), the National Preventive Mechanism. It will be assisted by a representative of the Association for the Prevention of Torture (APT), the Assembly’s working partner in its programme of immigration detention centre visits.
